Dr. Besim Islami is a highly experienced energy engineering professional with a strong background in renewable energy sources, energy planning, and environmental impact assessment. He has directed over 100 technology need assessments, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies for various energy projects, including SHPPs, WPPs, and PvPPs. 1 Dr. Islami has also led the development of Albanian GHG inventories and has been a principal lecturer on renewable energy and energy efficiency at the national and regional level

Dr. Besim Islami has led and participated in numerous significant energy projects across a wide range of countries. As Executive Director and Team Leader, he has overseen more than 100 Technology Need Assessments, Pre-Feasibility & Feasibility Studies, Detail Engineering Designs, and Due Diligences for 49 Small Hydropower Plants (SHPPs), 9 Wind Power Plants (WPPs), 6 Photovoltaic Power Plants (PvPPs), over 20 Solar Hot Water Systems (SHWSs), and over 25 Industrial Biomass Utilization Systems.
He has also conducted 80 Detail Energy Audits and contributed to the REUP program. Furthermore, Dr. Islami has been instrumental in climate change initiatives, serving as Team Leader for the Albanian GHG Inventory using IPPC Methodology. His work has spanned across Albania and several other countries in the region and beyond, including Montenegro, Kosovo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, FYRoM, Serbia, Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Ecuador, Bolivia, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, and Azerbaijan
